"This program underscores the fact that promoting responsible drinking is not just the responsibility of one group. By working together, sports leagues, concessionaires, brewers, and others can implement successful alcohol management training and awareness programs through TEAM Coalition."

back

TEAM Coalition traveled to Arlington, Texas for the third game of the 2010 MLB World Series on October 30th to reward the Rangers Designated Driver for the Season - Vicki Boggs. Boggs of Waxahachie, TX, attended the game as one of two grand prize winners of the Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes for designated drivers.

Boggs was randomly selected from over 11,000 Rangers fans who participated in the Budweiser Good Sport Designated-Driver Program at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington this season.

Designated Drivers must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Not drink alcohol at the game
  • Promise to ensure safe transportation home for friends and family

As the Rangers Designated Driver for the Season, Boggs received two tickets to Game 3 of the 2010 World Series, recognition on the video scoreboard and a chance to meet MLB and Club officials.

For the seventh consecutive season, Major League Baseball (MLB), Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management (TEAM) Coalition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and brewers have joined together to make more fans aware of the League’s designated-driver programs, including the Budweiser Good Sport partnership with the Rangers. The designated driver-program and the Responsibility Has Its Rewards sweepstakes promote traffic safety by encouraging responsible drinking and positive fan behavior.

  • Milwaukee Brewers: 54,026 designated drivers

US DOT / NHTSA 2009 NATIONAL DATA:
  • In 2009, 10,839 people were killed as a result of alcohol-related (BAC > 0.08) car crashes, a decline of 7.4% from the 11,711 fatalities in 2008
  • Many, if not most of those lives would have been saved if people did not drive when they were impaired by alcohol or if they used sober, designated drivers or if they simply wore their seat belts.
  • Statistics and research clearly show that 21-34 year old males are the demographic most likely to be involved in an automobile crash, drive when impaired by alcohol, and fail to buckle up.
